There was a large part of my life when you could never have persuaded me that my happiness might hang on .. a hanging thing. [grin]

What you’re looking at there is the newest addition to my crochet tools collection: it is a truly wonderful thing called The Wool Jeanie.
It’s the most bloody momentous aid to hit knitters and crocheters in the last .. oh, only the gods know when the previous ‘best thing’ occurred. To be able to sit peacefully with one’s yarn simply arriving without fuss of any kind at all is fucking MAGIC !!! And for someone like me, who guides her yarn in with her right hand (I am unable to find the words to tell you how unspeakably wrong this is !) as well as using her crochet hook with the same hand, it’s simply bliss. BLISS !!
Now I never need re-wind a ball of yarn to pull from the centre again; and the sole use of my swift and yarn ball winder will be for the few times when I buy my yarn in skeins – which isn’t often.
Hannah ? – BUY ONE. You, my only craft-oriented reader, really need this gorgeous tool. I have spoken. (I cannot include the mind-boggling Midnight Knitter, for she is so far out of my league as to be æons away – like the current and beautiful Blue Moon !)

Brilliant discovery – fabulous – even tho’ i have no idea how it works or what you did before

I could not for the life of me guess what that thing was when I first saw it. But now that I know, I can see how it might be pretty handy for crafty folks like you.

The fact of being able to keep crocheting, without for one second needing to stop to pull out a bit more yarn .. just that fact brings joy, Colorado ! I’ve been reading reviews; and it seems there are people who use the big heavy yarns – called ‘bulky’ and ‘super bulky’ and now there’s even a ‘jumbo’ – who are dissatisfied with the Jeanie. But I, who have long vowed never to go above what’s known as ‘worsted’/’aran’ (nowhere can I find the difference !), am in crocheter’s heaven.

I’m glad you’ve found something that works for you! I’m trying to visualize you holding the hook in your right hand, as well as feeding the yarn with your right hand. Kind of like me throwing the yarn with my right hand, while holding (or letting go) of my knitting needle, and holding the work in the left hand? Tricksy!
I’m a minimalist; I want to just have a small bag with my project in it with a few stitch markers and a measuring tape. Gotta be able to zoom out the door at any moment!

You’re a knitting fool, Michele – a truly brilliant one ! I don’t include you here because of your being only a knitter, whereas my mate Hannah in Glasgow crochets too.
Thing is, when I had to teach myself to crochet, back around the late ’60s, all I could think of was to copy the way I knit(ted) – so my crocheting is virtually single needle knitting !! 😦

Whatever works! And it sounds like it does!

Yup. I’ve got to the stage where I regard all the yarns I have and the patterns they’re for and my heart sinks a wee bit ..
Will I live long enough to crochet all these sweaters ?!! [grin]
