So I l peer over the balcony and see THAT !! – gallons and gallons (whatever gallons are in metric measurement) of .. some liquid being poured out from left to right into the top left corner of the tank on the left – from behind the little tree – and also from the tank on the right. Right ?
So what the fuck is going on ? What IS the yellow liquid [shudder !] and where is it going ?!

It’s travelling along that thick hose that comes out of the l.h. tank on its bottom left, curling around the blue shed thingy and going .. BACK INTO THE PIT !!!
[gasp !]
I asked Mr Gums as this sort of thing fascinates him, but he can’t work it out from the picture. But can’t you ask someone?

I would need to shout down at them from my 3rd floor balcony. No. 😀

If you were Mr Gums, you’d go down and ask! He’d be fascinated by the details 😂

I so detest it all, and their absolute carelessness of all we residents within ten feet, that I don’t give a rat’s arse, Sue. They worked all through the night.

But moving MR? There’s no guarantee that these sorts of things won’t happen wherever we live, and at least they say it will be finished early next year? That said, working through the night is not at all fun for those wanting to sleep. I completely understand. One of those links I sent is “your say” so can you have a say there?

You are an innocent abroad if you believe anything along those lines. Sorry to be tetchy: but it’s got to me.

What am I believing exactly? That they are doing sewer upgrades? Yes, I do trust that. I take everything with a grain of salt, but I’m also a believer in sins of omission rather than sins of commission. The latter happens of course but less often than people think!

This is what’s going on… I think that’s from the tunnelling: https://hdp-au-prod-app-gww-yoursay-files.s3.ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/8016/9656/2085/230928_-_SoW_L2_-_FINAL.pdf

Yes, it is. But they do not offer any explanation of what they’re doing, other than referring vaguely to tunnelling.

For most people, that’s probably enough? For me, it would be! I’d think, they’re tunnelling for pipes. Okay, makes sense to me. I’d have no interest in investigating the details unless noise or smell became an issue. Ah, I’ve just thought that maybe the water is about dust minimisation? I think construction does that sometimes ie they spray water on digging to keep the dust down?

Definitely not. No. This-morning after working all night with huge lighting there were men in the left-hand tank with spades, digging up silt and stashing it in the front of that same tank. There is no water spraying – just sucking up from the pit and filtering, I suppose, and then putting it back in !

Yes. I’m on their email list. Still no explanation, just, like, mention ..

Good. I hoped you would have had this information. Is there an option on one of those pages to ask questions?
They are tunnelling to instal more pipes aren’t they? Is that cIay from the tunnelling? It looks clay-coloured?

Yup – clay alright !

OK I know I’m going on but that YOUR SAY link has this (they EXPECT night works to be finished by Thursday!):
“Night works Elizabeth Street near Lonsdale Street: November 2023
Construction at the Elizabeth Street work site near Lonsdale Street is expected to be complete by late November 2023.
From Thursday 16 November 2023, road reinstatement work will take place in the existing site compound. This work will take place at night for four nights and will include excavation, road sawing and asphalting works.
Once this work is complete, this work site will be returned to its original condition. All fencing, barriers and traffic management signage will be removed.
What to expect during this work
Work will take place between 12.30am and 4.30am Monday to Thursday and is expected to be complete by Thursday 23 November 2023.
Road sawing works will take place during the day. However, some road sawing may happen during the night, if required.
There will be periods of moderate noise from use of road saws and excavators.”
You’ll be pleased to hear I am going out soon so will not bother you again!!!

Oh M-R! I would lose my mind, I fear. It may be a necessary upgrade to the infrastructure, but it’s completely distressing to the people trying to live in the vicinity. I am so sorry you’re forced to wait this out. I am noise sensitive, and I presume you are, too. Some people are capable of eventually tuning out distressing noise, but as hard as I try, I cannot. You have my sympathies!

Never have been. I’ve probably said it somewhere here before, but my reaction to noise was the sole source of disagreement between Stringer and me. Hate it. Love you for your sympathy, you beautiful creature.

I hate noise too … Mr Gums gets out the leaf blower and I get out the rake; he gets out the vacuum and I get out the broom. I understand his “efficiency” but he doesn’t get my preference for quiet.
Do you use earplugs?

Nup – I have small tortuous ear canals and they don’t lend themselves to any size plugs.

I can’t like that … I hate the idea of ear plugs, but I am pretty tolerant of noise. But I would not like machinery going all night!

I don’t know what that gunk is, but yuck! If it’s clay, it’s a weird color. Where I come from, clay is red, like the sandstone you see in pictures of New Mexico, etc. (yeah, I’m late on these last 4 or 5 posts of yours. Didn’t see any email, if there was any. Maybe lost in my spam box again.)

Or another irritating thing that happens is that one’s following of someone’s blog just gets cancelled, so one has no idea of that person’s posting. One must then re-follow. That’s happened to me at least three times over the years.

WP thoughtfully offered me a chance to re-up on a subscription before I’d even read a post. I’m beginning to think they’ve messed up several things today.
