But the question is: do I want to ..?
We all have different goals – those of us who have ’em, that is – and no-one can say whose is the most laudable.
I didn’t consider myself to have a goal at all: I did tell several friends that I’m going to kark at 93, but that was a statement based on .. erhmm .. maths, rather than one constituting a goal.
Check out this pretty amazing woman:

(I use the adjective because I reckon it’s fucking amazing that anybody at all derives enjoyment from running in races.)
The ABC article got me wondering about personal goal/s ..
Do I want to be celebrated for doing stuff people associate with younger women ? – nup. Do I seek to come first at anything ? – nup. Do I harbour secret yearnings to win literary awards ? – nup.
So do I have one single aim ? – yep.
To keep love in my life: that’ll maintain the difference between us.
That’ll maintain the difference between us? I hear I am being obtuse. I like the goal of keeping love on your life though. The best goal, really.

A commendable goal. Yours, that is. Even back in the dark ages when I was running several times a week, I hadn’t the faintest notion of running a marathon. These days I’m focused on keeping my couch warm! 🤓

My Dark Ages were after Chic had died and I was still living in Pyrmont, when I used to walk (briskly) FIVE KMS every morning !!! Did I hear you gasp, Colorado ? – well, I had one of the most beautiful views in the world: Sydney Harbour. Boy, that was A Walk ..

Yes, indeedy, I did gasp. That’s commendable, and I’m sure was good for you. I should be doing something similar with Charlie. Or at least around the block a couple of times a week. Note I said “should.”

I’ve never been one for running. The goal is to do whatever it is that keeps you happy. You’re doing great!

I like that way of putting it, Michele ! 🙂 – doing whatever keeps me happy. It’s a dictum by which I shall continue to survive. Goodonyer, small clever one !!

I’m in alignment with you, M-R. Completely! I never was a very competitive person. I often realize that what I find interesting and worth my time doesn’t necessarily translate to what others enjoy, emphasizing how different we all are. But I’m a great admirer of those who reach for goals that far surpass what’s expected, be it for age or any other reason. I think I admire discipline and perseverance, but I admire from a distance. 🙂 I love your goal to keep love in your life. That’s a wonderful way to go!. ❤️

Yes .. it’s strange, Deb, that being one of five girls I never did develop a competitive streak. I can’t say I’ve ever thought much about goals – mine or others – until I reached this point in my life (unspeakably advanced age !!); and now that I have, it’s clear to me that to be able again to love and to have someone to give it to is the very best thing there is ! 😀

I feel so fortunate that I don’t have to live my life thinking about “achievement.” I just want to be happy, and having wonderful relationships in my life does make me happy. That, and a book! LOL!

That’s a lovely goal (pun intended)! Maybe I’ll stick to something focused like that next year instead of having 10 different goals….

Or you might say something very self-oriented, Hannah. 🙂
