This first sweater – started on Friday and finished today – I even put it on and went out to Aldi ! – was an experiment to see if I can follow Frannie’s directions and produce a garment in CORRECT fucking size.
And I can !!!

Yesyes she said testily – I KNOW I’m doing that lean again ..

Well YOU try taking a shot of your own back view ! (Will accept any how-to ..)

Shows how everything fits, see ??

Looks like the bazoomas really are bigger than the bum now !! Astoundin that !
The next garment will be longer – I couldn’t be fagged doing more vertical chains than 172 sts for an experiment – and a totally different yarn and stitch. I shan’t go on and on about it because you’ve already fallen asleep with your mouths open.
Were I wealthy I could heap dollars on Frannie. But as I’m a pensioner I can only thank her for putting up her post on this marvellous idea of doing your own gauge-making (sort of).
Wow MR, that not only fits beautifully but it looks beautiful too. Well done. Frannie may have provided the guidance but you executed it. Love it. (BTW the length looks good to me.)

Thank-you, Sue – yer a good woman ! 🙂
My (_|_) is still too wide to be a beatific vision to anyone: I’m dedicated to hiding a fair proportion of it.
But I’m so excited: there must be squillions of possibilitie, now !!

Must admit I prefer to hide (_|_) too and prefer tunic lengths where possible but still the v-neck and vertical stripes make a fair fist ofelongating you… You look good.

Oh that’s lovely! It must be so satisfying to make something you can actually wear. Personally, however, I don’t worry about hiding my (_|_). It’s a very round belly I want to hide.

I am currently crocheting up another swatch – same hook size, MUCH finer yarn and totally different stitch. This new learning curve is such fun !

When you think what these handmade sweaters would cost in boutiques, you have really created something special. Now that you’re successful, it will be fun to see what you can come up with. I’m truly impressed!

Oh .. [ulp !]
I’ve kinda put my foot in it now, eh ? Puh-lease keep in mind that I have to work up to anything really nice, Deb – I still have to experiment with making a round neckline, just as one example .. The one I will start on the weekend will be longer, have shaped sleeves and a much deeper V neckline, for wearing over a shirt or T-shirt. Then I might be brave enough to try for a boat-neck. Or not. Depends on the success rate !!

You’ll get it! You’re determined and you know how to use YouTube and find the lessons when you need them. I think that’s half the battle! 😉

It’s REALLY EXCITING, Hannah, to find that one can crochet sweaters using one’s own gauge swatch as a starting point !! – any yarn, any hook, any stitch, any style ..
Let’s see what I can do differently with the next one .. 😀
