And I’ve been telling visitors to the city of my heart, where I now live forever (well for a few more years, anyway) that they’ve missed many construction deadlines !
If this latest report is true – and seeing as how those caustic comments of mine were also based on media reports, I may be forgiven for being a wee bit sceptical, I reckon – there is hope that I WILL live to see it !!!
My usual snide remark was along the lines of “Naah – it’s not going to happen in my lifetime !”, which fact I very much regretted.
Now, out of an orange-coloured sky, it seems FLASH ! – BAM ! – ALAKAZAM ! and it’s all happening, not only on time but (give me strength !) IN ADVANCE !!!
Must be the solitary occasion on which a huge government construction project has managed that.
Yes, I am indeed cynical about huge government construction projects. It is not possible to be otherwise, Downunder. And the worst place of all for them is my erstwhile abode, Sydney – a history of badly-planned, grossly over-spent and totally epic proportions of failure in such activity.
I can only hope that Oz is not alone in this aspect of its .. ahh .. development.

Oh, what great news M-R. Ahead of schedule is so rare, it seems, though yes, our major laundry repair was also finished ahead of schedule earlier this year, so perhaps I should re-visit my own cynicism about these things – haha!

Well, sometimes our skepticism and cynicism is what keeps us from getting our hopes dashed! But when we’re surprised, we can celebrate. Anything with government support or funding that comes in ahead of schedule is no minor miracle. Good news! Glad you shared it. 😉

Currently I don’t have enough words or adjectives to describe our ongoing dysfunction. I don’t know how some of these representatives. sleep at night! But they seem to be quite impressed with themselves even as other people suffer because of their ineptitude. LOL! You’re seeing why I don’t speak up very often. I can’t stop once I get started. 🤪

Governmental (at whatever level – and we have THREE !) – MINDLESSNESS, money-wasting and propensity for making decisions so idiotic that one is left gasping .. well, they appear to be world-wide, and certainly not just in the first world.
Is it the Peter Principle rising higher and higher ?
Is it that voters actually have no idea and couldn’t care less about those standing and their intentions ?
Whatever it is, it’s frightening.

I’ve no experience with subways, or knowledge of public transportation in Sydney, but I can certainly applaud any big project like this being finished ahead of schedule. Hope they had the foresight to put a station near you.

Tell me about. There’s a bloody ridiculous metal monstrosity here that is getting built n koala territory. It’s a pedestrian overpass. Mind you, there’s already traffic lights and a crossing in existence, but for some reason they want to build a 15 million metal ramped overpass for pedestrians over a 4 lane road. Perhaps the good school kids need to get to McDonalds? It has now blown out to 21 million, and 2 dead koala so far…

One fails utterly to rationalise such decisions ! It’s so fucking infuriating that it makes the blood boil and raises dark thoughts.
How come our mandatory voting doesn’t result in intelligent representatives ?!

I suspect this was largely a pork-barrelling effort at the last election. It was reviewed afterwards but let through as the state supported it, for some weird reason…. they contributed one seventh of the budge and federal the rest…. and there is a Citipointe church nearby…is that cynical of me to say?

I won’t ‘tell’ you my thoughts on the current government, although might say that they seem terrified of the coalition getting into power again so treading very carefully into enemy territory. I have to say you were right about the tourist who travelled to Hawaii.
