Here are three images shot from my little balcony that overlooks not only my own thoroughfare – Leicester Street (try to imagine me telling Chinese people my address ..) – but also the intersection of Elizabeth Street and Victoria Road, of which you can see a bit on the left:

I hear it’s going to be for sewerage.
Let us pray that no-one puts a pick through a pipe.
Well, first of all, it’s weird see an Oct. 14 dateline when it’s still Oct. 13 here. But moving on, I’d expect locals to get some sort of official notification about what’s going on, especially since public right-of-way has been blocked off. And I don’t know how you do things down under, but whatever’s going on, things better be put back to normal when the project is done. Or, while they’re at it, why not put things back better? A park or something else the neighborhood might like.

Oh dream on, Colorado !! 🙂
I note you say zilch about the appalling noise that’s going to assail me. Unhappily, not wearing my hearing-aids doesn’t help: I’m only deaf in my left ear (because of a grommet that didn’t allow the ear-drum to heal once gone) and the right one hears just fine !
Yeah, they alerted us. Didn’t alert us to the entire street being taken over but: the plan showed a smallish section on the far side .. Sighh ..

Well now I really feel bad. That should have been the first thing I thought of. Of course there will be noise. And it would annoy me greatly (to put it very politely). Can you maybe drown it out with a tv? Or noise canceling headphones? Or a sound machine?

Thank-you for that – yes, it’s going to give me the shits big-time. Like, BIG-TIME. I don’t have a TV, and you wouldn’t either if you had Oz TV content. The noise-cancelling headphones we had for flying – they were expensive ones, some well-known brand that of course I forget – did absolutely nothing. A sound machine ? – like white noise, you mean ?
I think it’d need to be a very much whiter shade of pale (sorry, Procul Harum !) to be effective with that going on just 3 storeys down. Yes, I’m being difficult. It’s because I’m actually going to have to GO somewhere with my crochet ..

Yes, like white noise. I prefer brown noise, personally, and I play a thunderstorm sound all night every night. But maybe not a steady sound. Music from your computer, maybe? You can find any sound you want on your computer. Maybe get some cheap headphones to use with it.

I could try using my Soundpeats !!
My younger sister – whose generosity is endless – gave them to me a few months back. Hmmmm .. You have given me food for thought, Colorado – muchas gracias !!

That very topic was Chic’s and my sole point of disagreement !!
I’ll let you know, Colorado. 🙂

He was a peaceable bloke: would get upset every time I raged about some fucking dickhead neighbour making a row late at night. Or ever, in truth ! He was a live and let live kinda person; whereas I was obsessive about people being considerate. We had some huge arguments about this !!

Thanks for the explanation. It’s Patrick J, btw, unless you knew already.

Ah but there are good things on SBS including on SBS on demand.

There are some good things on the ABC, which I can watch on iView on my laptop. But I don’t watch SBS: I will not EVER watch commercial television. Advertising is an anathema and nothing can change that for me.

You can watch SBSOn Demand on your laptop I presume. I guess I’m more likely to use my iPad.

I could. But I don’t. They show ads. I no look.

Ah well … as long as you are happy … I can put up with SBS ads for some interesting non-Anglo content.

We sometimes record commercial tv so we can skip the ads. Unfortunately SBS has ads.

In the good old days, we watched almost nothing but, and saw many of our favourite French & Italian movies – as well as some Spanish and some German ones ! The sub-titling was quality stuff. But no: I won’t put up with ads. It’s not just their horrible content: it’s the interruption of the thing being watched. Unforgiveable.

just your luck M-R – hope it will be noiseless digging !! 😦

You should’ve seen the digger that was parked there before – but they removed it an hour ago – it was ginormous ! Much too big. I imagine a smaller one will arrive Monday morning. Doesn’t say a lot for their organization, eh, Goanna ? 😦

And you don’t know what it’s for or for how long? I’m not wonderful at city geography but how close to you is the gorgeous state library?

Theoretically for six weeks, Sue – which means a minimum of a couple of months. The SL isn’t far – https://imgur.com/a/LdGktUt – and I was already thinking of it, too !! 🙂

Good thinking … but six weeks is a long time though maybe the digging/drilling will only be at the beginning.
Oops … I see you believe it’s for sewerage. I first read that as a joke but reading again I see that’s what you believe is the case.

It’s what they told us on the flyer. 😦

It really does get tiresome needing to constantly adapt to change around us! I mean that sincerely! 😌 I hope this goes much better than all the possibilities. 🙀

I would definitely believe it! Sounds about right. You can’t count on anything these days. I sound so cynical, and I suppose I am. 🤪

Sighh .. because my younger sister arrived for the weekend, they decided to start work on Saturday. Happily for us we had things to do on both days; and she’s gone again now (it’s lunchtime Monday here).

Oh, I’m sorry for the cold! But I’m so glad you had the opportunity. I really believe that in the last few years, primarily as a result of our Covid isolation, we’ve recognized who is important in our lives. (and who isn’t, too, but we won’t go there!) LOL!

[shaking head vigorously] Take the hearing out aids in the meantime?

Not putting ’em in. They do nothing for environmental noise – well, other than augment it. The Cocktail Effect isn’t monitored in hearing aids when you buy them as a pensioner. 😦

I hear this excuse all the time, M-R – and I have to say, persevere! I learnt that using a hearing aid is like learning to hear all over again. It takes about 12 months for the ear -brain connection to learn to discriminate sounds again – it cannot do this instantly when it has been muffled for so long. Easy for me to say though and no doubt harder to do.

If the fuckers were comfortable and didn’t make my ears stick out I might just go in for a tad of perseverance, Amanda. But they’re not and they do, so I’m just going to drive everyone mad by saying “Eh ??” [grin]

Oh dear. What the hell have they given you? They should not do that. That sounds very uncomfortable. Return them for a refund and find some others – like those very small led aids. They are not cheap though…
