This you ain’t gonna believe !

I GOT IT !!! – I’m IN !!!

It’s not exactly what I went for, but it’s still bloody good !!!

OK, back to the start ..

I applied to this brand-new development in Prahran for a 1-bedroom apartment. Here’s a nimage – artwork only, but more than merely sufficient for the porpoise:

Pretty neat, huh ?

Having donned shoes correct for viewing, I viewed one of those – somewhat different layout but much the same area – and fell instantly in love. Not only with the apartment, but with the gardens, the area and the team of people doing the showing (who’d be the contacts).

It all took much longer than I’d hoped; but ten minutes ago I was informed that my application has been approved – for a studio !

Whaddya reckon ??? – not your usual studio !

I’m in an NRAS place right now, and the rent is only $260pw; its owner will be able to charge more or less what he wants in June – I’m told it will be $430pw.

The rent on a 2nd floor 1-bedroom is $430, and most definitely worth it in today’s terms: split system, dishwasher, everything brand new .. Oh, you should see the landscaped gardens ..!

But the team was anxious about my move from $260 to $430 – and I will admit that they were being both thoughtful and sensible (one of the reasons I want to be where they all are !). The offer is thusly: I’m approved for a studio and expected to last in it for six months; and if I find that I’ve saved some more and still want a 1-bedroom, then I’ll be offered the first one that becomes available and that I like !

No complaints from this old broad !!

I have TENURE !!! – and for $380pw !!!

I am HAPPY !!!

  1. Oh I’m so glad for you MR … you’ve done a studio before if I recollect and it worked fine? How different is this one in size and facilities? Do you have a nice aspect?

Anyhow, if you’re happy, I’m happy. Woo hoo!

    • You’re right, Sue – my previous rental in this building; and yes, I was perfectly OK within the smaller footprint. Luz the Wonder Woman (my cleaner, the beautiful young woman upon whom I dote) will have less filthy floor to clean – mostly made so by Boodie’s trailing litter in his paw-pads from the litter-box. I shall look forward to having a showing for my super new Care Manager, Maria, to emphasize the differences between this “apartment” and that studio. I’ll be in seventh heaven !!! 🙂
But I won’t know my view until I’ve set eyes on the studios, which happens next Thursday arvo. Thereafter I can rave even more !

  2. It is indeed true, my clever friend ! – even the studios have terrific balconies. My main drive now is to snaffle one on any floor from the second up, so that Boodie can’t jump off. How do you count floors – do you go ground, 1, 2, 3 and so on ? Or do you start from 1 and have no ground floor ?

  3. M-R, I am so happy for you, that you found a new place and a management team that appears to have its sh*t together with accommodation and being realistic in the rent$ department. We have many new places here, but rent has skyrocketed since Covid and where I am still fits in my budget. I hope your move goes smoothly and Boodz loves his new home as much as you do.

    • Thank-you, M-J – much appreciated ! 🙂 There are some last-minute hiccups about the fact that all the studios, it turns out, face directly west – that is, all but a few .. and the team is in the process of ensuring that I get one of those few. (Frankly, the thought of having a job wherein many hundreds of unknown people are applying for a couple of hundred rentals and I have to check applications and do the allocating .. well, it’s a pretty hideous image, don’t you think ?) I can’t work out how the whole western world got itself into this horrible rising rents situation at the same time: does it make sense to you ?

      • Yes. The biggest corporations started raising prices and blamed it on Covid and the supply chain issues and poor them, they weren’t making enough billions of dollars. It was a huge snowball that was pushed downhill, gathering up smaller businesses, grocery stores and the housing/rent market. A convenient excuse. My landlord keeps raising rent and yet, they don’t always pay attention to what really needs to be fixed and we are discovering the new snowplow vendors are worth shit. Go figure.

  4. Fabulous news! What a great way for you to start the new year. I’m sorry I’m late getting to celebrate with you. I wasn’t getting notifications that you’d posted something (so I signed up again). Anyway, I’m so happy for you. New places are always so fresh and nice.
