This pair of fashion items — I almost choke with frustrated rage as I write those words — has defied the major trend of fashion (transience) to  become, apparently, locked in forever. I know I’ll have karked before either has lost the dedication of the sheep people.

This … “style” is so ugly and unappealing in its untidiness (and lack of staying power) that I’m unable to work out how it ever gained a foothold. To me it’s a woman who has had a fancy hairstyle but was then caught in the rain, and doesn’t have a brush or comb to fix up the destruction.

And by the time a woman who’s just had the “style” inflicted on her has paid and left the salon, it’s already started to lose whatever ‘zhuzh’ it had.

Then there’s this.

Do I need to actually utter a syllable about it ?

  1. Well, personally, I’ve always opted for short, if not very short, hairstyles. Too lazy to fool with anything more and very practical in windy Oklahoma and Colorado. “Windblown” was usually my instruction to the stylists. (Only recently discovered styling paste and it helps a lot.) As for the jeans … I’ve never understood the hole-y jeans thing. But I grew up wearing jeans for outdoor activities such as horseback riding, hiking, etc. and holes defeat the purpose.

    • That’s not SHORT, Colorado ! – that’s mid-length. Then there’s short, and then there’s mine. [grin] But the length is immaterial, m’dear: it’s the horrid sort of ‘hangingness’ – the deliberate looking like untangled dreadlocks. I declare, I despair !!!

  2. I don’t hate the windswept hair style … I hate greasy matted hair, but clean windswept (bed-hair!!) styles don’t bother me unless they are excessive. BUT

    Holey jeans make me apoplectic. The fact that there are people who struggle to clothe themselves, and when they do they try their darnedest to present well, while others spend big money on pre-stressed jeans, just makes me mad. It’s so in your face – here, I have the money to buy torn jeans. Seriously?

  3. Holey jeans are a BIG no no. And shockingly expensive. But, and I have to laugh, that hairstyle could be me. My hair is naturally curly and thick and now grey and mid length suits me best. As for my hairdresser, I visit every 3 months for a cut, mainly to thin out the weight. Otherwise it’s wash and let dry.

      I’ll lay odds that it doesn’t actually look like that woman’s – because hers has been … erhmm … created by a person (can’t say a hairdresser). Yours I would so like to see for myself: how about another visit, but this time to Melbourne, city of my heart ?

      • Ah, I’d love another visit to Downunder, but I’m not so keen on that long flight anymore. The family have moved again – in Brisbane now. But if I do ever make it over then I will definitely try and make contact. I’m pleased to see that you seem to be settled eventually. No more moves I hope!

        • I can understand reluctance re that long haul – flying is no longer “the beginning of the holiday” but a necessary and not very pleasant chore. There are so many things about the way the world has changed that are deeply regretted by most of us.

          In Brisbane ? – moving north … they probably want to get away from Sydney’s ghastly weather. But on the other hand, Brisbane’s ain’t much better. Still, hope they’re happy !

          • They went to Perth, but R was made redundant from Emirates Airlines, so moved back to Sydney, got a job with Qantas, hence Brisbane. Now working for Air New Zealand. Two boys now and all good.

  4. No ripped jeans! Although I was once on a work trip (volunteer building a wheelchair ramp) and it was so hot I used my folding scissors to cut off one of my pairs of jeans so I could have shorts. Necessary!

    I kind of like that hair style: It’s as long as mine (mine is straight) and it looks relaxed and fun. Straight haired people want curly, and curly haired people want straight. Oh well!

  5. With the right outfit, not those ripped jeans, but a beige or white linen country style slipdress, shady hat and light blonde hair one might get away with this hairstyle.

    I am surprised to see professional woman, newsreaders and presenters sporting this tousled- just rolled out of bed- lost my brush- kind of look.

    This is preferable to wearing crocs and the latest fashion of wearing pyjama style shorts and shirt.

    And don’t even mention those rappers wearing their duds half way down their backside!!

  6. I have a pair of old, very comfy jeans that have a hole worn on the right leg. I wear them proudly about town, but not to church.

    I also have a pair of boyfriend jeans that I purposely bought with the fibrous holes in both knees (not as bad as your photo, though). I LOVE them, but my good friend always asks me if I paid for those holes.

    Therefore, I wonder if you still love me, M-R, holey jeans and all. 😉
